Narrative: The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old Clayton woman. At approximately 3:40 p.m., Dover Police received a call for a serious crash involving a GMC Sierra, a Subaru Outback and a Nissan Sentra. Officers responded to the area and located the 78-year-old victim, who was identified as Pauline Parrott and attempted to render aid. Tragically, she was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Nissan, a 71-year-old female of Dover, was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment and later released. The driver of the GMC, a 43-year-old male of Newark, refused medical treatment.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the GMC Sierra was traveling Northbound on South DuPont Highway in the right lane, approaching Webb’s Lane. At the same time, the Subaru was stopped in traffic on Webb’s Lane preparing to cross over South DuPont Highway going west. The traffic signal for Westbound Webb’s lane turned green, and the Subaru began crossing South DuPont Highway. At the same time, the GMC failed to stop at the red signal on South DuPont Highway, causing the front of the GMC to strike the driver-side door of the Subaru. After the vehicles collided, they slid north into the left turn lane of Southbound, South DuPont Highway, striking the Nissan.
No charges have been filed at this time. The Dover Police Department is still evaluating the facts of this case and requests that anyone with information contact Dover Police Department at (302) 736- 7130. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor at this time.
