Detectives Investigating Shots Fired in Claymont

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred in the area of Claymont Elementary School in Claymont last night.

On July 27, 2025, at approximately 10:53 p.m., troopers responded to the area of Claymont Elementary School, located at 3401 Green Street, Claymont, for a report of shots fired. Troopers, with the assistance of New Castle County Police Department, searched the area for any victims, suspects, or property damaged. During the search, New Castle County Police Department Officers located an abandoned white Hyundai Sonata on Green Street. The vehicle was still in drive, and appeared to have been struck by a projectile. The preliminary investigation revealed that after the shots fired were heard, several vehicles drove away at a high rate of speed, and the Hyundai was abandoned, still in motion, by 3-4 unknown subjects, who fled in various directions.

There are no reported injuries or other property damage at this time. There is no further information available for the suspect(s). Surveillance video and images are not available.

The Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this incident. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed this incident or has information regarding this case to contact Detective J. Lucyk by calling 302-365-8446.
